Designed and manufactured by WH Bence for Royal Cornwall Hospitals, this mobile diabetic eye screening unit is built on an Iveco Eurocargo 100E19/P 4×2 chassis and provides a self-contained environment for community-based assessment and imaging.  The vehicle is 8,838 mm long, 2,525 mm wide and 3,712 mm high, with an approximate unladen weight of 9,500 kg.  Four hydraulic levelling legs with spreader pads provide a stable operating platform, supported by a 24 V electrohydraulic system and manual emergency override.

The clinical layout comprises a central reception and waiting area with seating for four, a photographer’s screening room and a separate HCA assessment room.  Both clinical rooms include worktops, storage and HTM-compliant handwashing facilities, with a dedicated floor-mounted bracket for the camera system and an under-counter fridge in the HCA room.  The main entrance incorporates a roller shutter and an integrated step-lift platform, allowing the same entrance to be used by ambulant and wheelchair users.  Rear emergency access is provided with slide-out steps interlocked to the ignition, while a deployable entrance handrail and canopy support safe access.

·         Power: 32 A single-phase landline, 8 kVA acoustically housed diesel generator with automatic mains changeover, inverter/charger and battery support for the entrance door and wheelchair lift

·         Water system: 150-litre fresh-water and 150-litre waste-water tanks, direct mains-water connection, 15-litre water heater, digital level display and Seagull drinking-water filter

·         Environmental control: roof-ducted air conditioning serving the screening and assessment areas, entrance air heater, and digital temperature and humidity monitoring

·         Safety and security: smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms in each room, emergency lighting, rear parking sensors, external scene lighting, first-aid kit and CO₂ fire extinguishers

·         Interior construction: insulated GRP composite body, wipe-clean wall panels, insulated floor, secure external lockers, three windows with blinds and under-cupboard lighting
