Bence
recently delivered a state of the art mobile Command and Control Unit for the
South Yorkshire Fire Service. The unit, which is based on a Mercedes Econic 18
tonne base chassis, will provide the Fire Service with an optimal unit in which
to manage major incidents.
The
unit is divided internally into two main areas with one of the areas providing a
large briefing area for the Fire Officers. A separate area provides space for
the radio operator and the Incident Commander. The accommodation is further
extended by way of an external fully enclosed awning providing a further
briefing and working area for the officers with critical information being
provided via an external touch sensitive screen integrally mounted on the side
of the vehicle.
The
mobile unit is fully air conditioned within, which provides the ideal
environment and conditions for the sophisticated communications and IT equipment
mounted within specially constructed IT racks at the rear of the unit. Power to
the unit is provided either via a landline or an on-board generator, with a
battery UPS back providing electrical power
resilience.
The
rooftop provides a platform for several communication antennas, together with a
satellite dome to receive news bulletins and a 120cm satellite dish providing
Broadband connectivity wherever the unit may be. The whole unit is stabilised
via an independently controlled hydraulic leg
system.
The
unit was delivered during May in preparation for the intensive training which
will be undertaken on the unit prior to the unit ‘going
live’.
